St. George's Grenada: NAWASA's Communications Officer Jamila Lewis was one of three persons who made presentation at the Official Handover Ceremony for the FUN FUN ONE CRAB ON THE RUN books at the Ministry of Education Conference Room on Friday February 28th, 2014.
This picture book is written by acclaimed author Mario Picayo and illustrated by Grenadian Stacey Byer. As the largest sponsor, the Communications Officer was on hand for the official handover to Ms. Ruth Rouse, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education & Human Resource Development. The books will be distributed to fifty (50) selected pre- schools during the month of March.
In making her presentation, the Communication Officer said " Early childhood is a crucial stage of life in terms of a child's physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. Educators indicate that growth of mental and physical abilities progress at an astounding rate and a very high proportion of learning takes place from birth to age six. This we see as amazing because looking at Mr. Picayo's book we notice that the target audience is for children between ages 3 to 6 years."
She further added "The use of illustration by Ms. Byer will give budding artistes a chance to explore this form of art as there are so many opportunities that can be obtained from this field. NAWASA has considered art of this nature in the delivery of messages. Our recent Bill payment illustration advertisement speaks to this. NAWASA has always been community oriented; and we see this as another opportunity to give back."
Environmental awareness is featured highly in the book which is based around water and marine life. Using a powerful quote from Nelson Mandela, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Ms. Lewis congratulated Ms. Byer for her accomplishment in the field of art and also the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development for their support to the initiative.
